The World Series has come to the land of cowbells and catwalks, where cownose rays swim in a 10,000-gallon tank above the fence in right-center field. Tropicana Field is home sweet dome to the Tampa Bay Rays, the surprise story of this baseball season.

Goodbye - Basketball In Seattle

Submitted by Matthew Gagnon on Sunday, 6 July 2008No Comment

The Seattle SuperSonics will move to Oklahoma City next season.  This concludes a protracted legal battle between the owner of the Sonics (Clay Bennet) and the city of Seattle - and on this one, Seattle lost.

For their part, apparently the “Seattle SuperSonics” will be staying in the Space Needle until such a time that another franchise comes back to Seattle, and the Sonics will have to come up with a new team name now that they’re in the Oklahoma City market - early favorites are really stupid names like the “Oklahoma City Twisters” and “Oklahoma City Lightning”.

By the way, what the hell is wrong with the NBA.  They keep going to all this microscopic markets (Memphis? - what’s next, Bangor Maine?) and naming their teams really really stupid names.  I’m sorry but the “Bobcats” and “Grizzlies” are really stupid names - and even cool names like the “Raptors” are ruined by retarded looking purple uniforms and happy looking dinosaur mascots.  Note to Toronto - blood red and angry vicious dinosaurs are the way to go.

Anyway, I’m sure the first two years of this move will be great, and ESPN will have a huge circle jerk over Okahoma City as a basketball market - but when the newness wears off and they are left with a mediocre team, what will happen?

Sorry you got screwed Seattle - but at least you get the Cleveland Browns treatment and can keep your team name.  Lets just hope (for your own sanity) that the newly moved franchise doesn’t pull a Ravens and win a championship a few years after they leave.
